GREENFIELD — A passing truck driver with a cellphone and a second-floor tenant with a garden hose kept an early Friday morning apartment building porch fire from becoming a danger to the sleeping people inside.
Greenfield Fire Department Deputy Chief Edward Jarvis said the fire was reported at about 4:50 a.m. at 3638 High St. When the fire engine arrived, the small fire had already been put out by one of the residents of the building.
Jarvis said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. He said the fire was small enough that no one had to leave the building. He said the wooden porch had minor structural damage, but was still usable.
