Enjoy dinner by the Millers River Sept. 13
ORANGE — Riverfront Park on East River Street is the site of an annual Dinner by the River event. The event to take place this year on Sept. 13 is a way for community members to gather socially and enjoy the beauty the Millers River provides. Presented by the Orange Revitalization Partnership and Friends of the Parks, the dinner has been going on since its inception during the Orange bicentennial celebration in 2010.
“It’s a very pleasant evening,” says Pat Andrews, who is the vice chair of the revitalization partnership.
Andrews says the event was a success the first year, and that residents enjoyed it so much they’ve worked to keep it up on a yearly basis.
This year, the event will have a catered, balsamic chicken buffet dinner, provided by Affordable Caterers. Music, also a part of the evening, will be provided by the jazz band Bok Choy. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased at Trailhead, Flowerland, Bruce’s Browser, Peak Expedition and Pete’s Tire Barn.
The night starts off with a social hour at 5 p.m. and continues with dinner at 5:30. Andrews says it really is a community event, mentioning that the tents used are loaned to Dinner by the River from the Garlic and Arts Festival and the tables and chairs are borrowed from the Orange Armory.
“I remember one year we had that bad storm pass through and we had to pack everything up and bring it indoors to the Universalist Church, but we did it,” Andrews remembers.
She hopes this year’s weather will cooperate so the evening can happen surrounded by the park and view of the river as intended. Supporters of Dinner by the River include Stan’s Liquor Mart, Gelinas Landscaping, Hannaford, Wal-Mart, Tractor Supply Co. and the Orange Lions Club. For more information, call 978-544-8555.
