Bulletin Board: MacConnell, Zukowski rule K of C golf
Bruce MacConnell and Ray Zukowski earned the top weekly point quota total at plus-6 to lead the Knights of Columbus Golf League at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club Wednesday in Turners Falls.
Steve Call was closest to the pin on No. 7 at 4 feet, 5 inches, while Joe Kapitulik was closest on No. 9 at 13-10.
MacConnell won the second half of the league with 11 points and qualified for the playoffs along with Winston LaBelle, Kapitulik and Bill O’Neil.
Sally Malloy shot a 42 to win low gross during the Thomas Memorial Ladies League on Wednesday.
Elaine Barnard and Kate Dwyer won the weekly point quota at plus-4, while Hilda Worden was third at plus-1. Dorothy Adams was closest to the line on No. 6.
David Snow and David Bonnette hold first place with 381/2 points in the Greenfield Elks League standings following Wednesday’s competition at the Country Club of Greenfield.
Jim Olszewski and Jim Jason stand in second place, 51/2 points back ar 33.
John Carriddi was closest to the pin on No. 5 at 21 feet, 2 inches.
Edge Hill Ladies
Robin Hartnett shot a 47 to win the A Division of the Edge Hill Golf Course Ladies League Wednesday in Ashfield.
Eileen Schneider won the B Division with a 48. Diane O’Connell was closest to the pin on No. 10 at 27 feet, 11 inches.
DRIVE Girls’ MS
Jill McGrath scored nine points on Tuesday to lead Noho to a 42-19 win over Turners Falls in the championship game of the DRIVE Hoops girls’ middle school division at Greenfield Middle School.
Lexi Lacey led Turners Falls with 5 points.
• In the consolation game, Samantha Smith scored 9 points and Kate Haselton added 7 as Greenfield edged Frontier, 30-20.
Penelope Hosley finished with 5 points for Frontier.
Greenfield Rec registration
The Greenfield Recreation Department is still accepting registrations for its youth soccer programs this fall.
Deadline to register is Friday before a $5 late fee will be added.
The Pee Wee division is open to boys and girls grades K-2 and is a small field 3 on 3 program that introduces players to the sport. The league meets on Saturdays from Sept. 6 through Oct. 25 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Green River Swimming & Recreation Area. Cost is $30 for residents and $35 for non-residents.
The Travel Soccer Junior Division is for grades 3-4 and the Senior Travel Division is for grades 5-6. Each division practices one night per week and plays games on Saturdays from Sept. 6 through Oct. 25 from 9-10:15 a.m. Cost is $45 for residents and $50 for non-residents.

Deerfield Rec registration
The Deerfield Recreation Department will sponsor youth soccer programs for children in grades K through 6 this fall.
Registration will be held Thursday and Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Town Hall in South Deerfield. Registration forms can also be found online at www.deerfieldma.us.
Registration fee is $50 per child.

Youth field hockey
Union 38 intro program
Deerfield Rec will conduct the Union 38 Introduction to Field Hockey program for girls in grades 3 through 6 from the towns of Deerfield, Whately, Sunderland and Conway.
The focus of the program will be on skill development with game scenarios later in the season.
Sticks, shin guards and balls (with a deposit) will be provided to the first 35 girls who register. Players are encouraged to wear a mouthguard.
Practices will be held on Sundays from Sept. 14 through Oct. 19 from 4 to 5 p.m. at Memorial Field in South Deerfield.
Fees are $10 for registration and $50 for equipment deposit. Parents are asked to write separate checks for each (equipment deposit checks will be returned at the last session, when all equipment is returned).

Don Maynard Memorial
The 20th annual Don Maynard Memorial 5-mile Road Race and 3-mile Walk will take place Sept. 20 at 9:30 a.m.
The race begins and ends at the Green River Swimming & Recreation Area in Greenfield.
The first 100 registered participants will get a free T-shirt. Entry fee is $20 for the run and $14 for the walk. Registration forms can be picked up at the YMCA or the Body Shoppe in Greenfield, or by contacting Chuck Adams at 522-6688. Participants can also register online at www.runreg.com.
The third annual “Your First Mud Run” will take place at Holyoke Community College on Sept. 28 at 10 a.m.
The race covers two miles and features numerous obstacles such as wall climb, tires, jump ropes and a mud pit. The event is open to the whole family and is a good practice for those interested in running something larger, such as the Tough Mudder or Spartan Race. Every participant will get a T-shirt and a medal, and pictures and other gear will be available.
