Hawlemont gardens ‘ground-breaking’ offers public preview

CHARLEMONT — Plenty of ground has already been broken this summer, as the Hawlemont Regional School staff and community have planted gardens, built raised beds and farm buildings, in anticipation of the school’s new farm-based academic curriculum.

But a “ground-breaking” celebration for this summer’s school grounds transformation takes place today at 4:15 p.m., to give the public a preview.

School Superintendent Michael Buoniconti sent out emails and a voicemail to the community, saying that the event is being treated as a potluck, so those who come are welcome to bring along drinks and snacks. The Hawlemont School Committee will be there, before members go inside for a school committee meeting, but community members are welcome to remain outdoors and celebrate the new school year.
