Trash day, papers to printers

TURNERS FALLS — Recycle your e-waste at one end of the avenue, shred confidential information at the other. Two charity drives Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at opposite ends of town request your difficult-to-dispose-of waste, and donations.

The Montague Business Association hosts a paper shredding, computer hard drive destruction and flag collection at the Avenue A and Seventh Street intersection, while St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church collects electronics waste in the 1 Avenue A Town Hall parking lot.

Valley Green Shredding has donated its services for the event, targeting confidential information on paper or in computer hard drives.

The suggested donation per bag/box/hard drive is $5 and up, with funds supporting the Montague Business Association and the Unity Skate Park effort. Shredding is paper-only: light textbooks, spiral notebooks and paperclips are acceptable. Hard drives must be removed from the computer.

Those interested in volunteering may contact Stephan Smith, A.H. Rist Insurance, 413-863-4373 or email stephan@ahrist.com.

The electronics drop-off includes laptops, printers, televisions, cellphones, batteries, air conditioners, vacuum cleaners and fans — no large appliances or treadmills — with a suggested donation of $10 to benefit the Brick House youth center on Third Street.

The date for the Montague Business Association Shredding Day is incorrect in this article. The correct day is Saturday, September 13. If you could run this correction in the Talk of the Town and the Neighbors sections it would be much appreciated.
