Connecticut River low water warning issued for Tuesday

MONTAGUE — Boaters may find the Connecticut River low above the Turners Falls dam on Tuesday.

Tests originally scheduled for July 29 and 31 were postponed due to high water and are now scheduled for Aug. 12.

FirstLight Hydro Generating Co. is participating in a relicensing study by fellow Connecticut River dam operator TransCanada Hydro Northeast. Both dam operators are renewing their licenses with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

FirstLight’s FERC license requires that the water between the Turners Falls and Vernon, Vt., dams be kept between 176 and 185 feet above sea level as measured at the Turners Falls Dam.

The river will be held within that range Aug. 12, but at levels that may make boating difficult in some areas, according to a FirstLight notice.
