Montague’s town emergency alert system modernized

MONTAGUE — The town expects to be able to alert residents sooner in the event of disasters and dangerous emergencies, with a Code Red emergency notification system now online.

Free to residents, the service allows town and emergency agencies to send mass text or voice phone messages.

Montague Police Chief Charles “Chip” Dodge III announced the system earlier bought into by the town is now set up, and residents should expect a phone call from Code Red asking them to sign up.

Five people: Dodge, town Emergency Management Director and Turners Falls Fire Chief Robert Escott Jr., Montague Center Fire Chief John Greene, Highway Superintendent Thomas Bergeron and selectmen’s executive assistant Wendy Bogusz will have access to the system, Dodge said, and designated assistants in their absence.

Sign-up is online at:

Residents may elect to receive emergency only or emergency and non-emergency alerts.
