Greenfield advances to Jr. Legion finals

Nate Crocker finished with two hits and scored three times as Greenfield Post 81 advanced to the Junior American Legion Baseball championship series with a 7-6 victory over Wilbraham in Game 2 of the best-of-three series Friday night at Farrell Field in Wilbraham.

Greenfield scored two runs on a passed ball in the fifth inning to take a 7-4 lead, but Wilbraham came back to make things tight and cut the lead to one in the seventh inning. Wilbraham had the bases loaded in the seventh but Greenfield turned a double play to help it get out of the jam.

Julian Diamond finished with two hits for Greenfield, while Andrew Toritto singled and scored twice. Brandon Bryant singled and drove in two runs. Ben Poirier pitched five solid innings to earn the win, and Tyler Townsley picked up the save.

Greenfield will take on the winner of the East Longmeadow-Aldenville series beginning Monday night at Vets Field.

Tri-County League

Longmeadow 5, Manny’s 3 — Longmeadow scored four times in the sixth inning off Manny’s reliever Jeff Dixon to upend Manny’s TV & Appliance, 5-3, in a Tri-County League men’s amateur baseball game Friday night at East Longmeadow High School.

Mike Kielbasa hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and Jack Ryu hit an RBI single in the frame.

Soren Pelz-Walsh hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to tie the game at 1-1, and a Garrett Hudson single put Manny’s ahead 2-1. Dave Talbot drove in the third run with a fielder’s choice in the sixth before Longmeadow rallied.

Talbot finished with two hits in the loss, while Eric Libardoni and Bryan Adamski each doubled. Greg Dixon struck out one and walked one in two innings of relief to suffer the loss.

Manny’s (16-4-1) is the second in the upcoming TCL playoffs, which begins Monday.

Teddy Bear 3, Chicopee 2 — Andrew Sadowski pitched six strong innings and Teddy Bear Pools defeated Chicopee Falls Tigers, 3-2, in a TCL game Friday night at Rivers Field in Chicopee.

Teddy Bear (12-8) scored three times in the first inning to take the lead for good. Zach Bartak and Tom Malooly each hit RBI singles in the frame, while Brad Bean belted an RBI double.

Sadowski got touched for two runs in the bottom of the second inning but did not allow a run the rest of the way. Kyle Platner struck out two and walked two in the seventh to nail down the save.

Bean finished with two hits in the win.

Teddy Bear hosts Dream Bats today at 4 at Valiton Field in South Deerfield.
