Sunderland police issue ‘indecent exposure’ warning

SUNDERLAND — Sunderland Police say there were two reports of indecent exposure Wednesday afternoon and have, as a result, issued a warning to residents and to visitors of the department’s Facebook page.

According to police, a single woman and then a group of young women walking near the shopping plaza on Route 116 were stopped and asked for directions by a motorist who turned out to be unclothed from the waist down.

The motorist was described as a white man, balding, mid- to late 30s, in an older, rusty, tannish small car, possibly a Honda.

“We are working on seeing if there are any videos of the car from the plaza area to try to find a plate number on this car,” police said.

“All females were advised if this or anything like this happens again to get away and call 911 immediately. We do not want anyone to put themselves in any danger.

“If you feel like you are being followed or feel like there is something off, please call 911 and get an officer on the way.”
