Bulletin Board: Hudson, Duclos working magic for Manny's
Garrett Hudson and Mike Duclos helped Greenfield High School win several baseball games during their careers. They’re now helping Manny’s TV & Appliance Center remain unbeaten in the Tri-County League.
Hudson fired a four-hitter to earn the win while Duclos scored the go-ahead run and delivered a key single to plate an insurance tally as Manny’s downed Easthampton Savings Bank, 5-1, in a TCL men’s amateur baseball game Tuesday night at Veterans Memorial Field in Greenfield.
“He’s thrown really effectively for us,” said Manny’s coach Lee Magee of the Merrimack-bound Hudson. “He did much better job with his curveball. In his last start he was a little off and gave up a lot of walks, but (tonight) he was able to cut down on them and did a great job.”
Hudson struck out seven and walked three in his complete-game effort.
Each team scored on an error in the opening frame. Then Manny’s grabbed a 3-1 lead in the second.
Duclos drew a leadoff walk, Mike Putala singled and Jordan Stempel’s attempted sacrifice bunt turned into a single when no one covered first, loading the bases. After ESB starter Ben Wood struck out Greg Vouros, Eric Libardoni plated Duclos with a ground ball that led to a force at second. One batter later, Soren Pelz-Walsh drove in Putala with a single.
Manny’s (8-0-1) gave Hudson a little more breathing room in the fifth. Pelz-Walsh led off with a walk, moved up to second on a groundout and scored on a pair of wild pitches. Steffen Herter then singled, stole second and scored on Duclos’ single.
Pelz-Walsh was the only player on either team with two hits.
Ian Leonard and Tina Riddell both went 5-for-5 to lead Brad’s Place to a 23-20 win over Team Allure in a Greenfield Co-Rec Adult Softball League game at Greenfield Middle School.
