Letter: The oldest citizen
We read with interest the article concerning the lady who received the Boston Post gold headed cane as “the oldest resident” of Greenfield. She is 98.
We had not seen the notices in The Recorder, apparently seeking nominations.
If we had, we would have nominated Olga Mushovic Zewinski, who is 102. She lives in her long-term home, independently but with some assistance. She cooks meals, bakes pies, follow the news in The Recorder and manages her own checkbook. She is very knowledgeable about national affairs and local affairs. She still pays real estate taxes to Greenfield and speaks positively about her years of working in the town clerk’s office.
When we learned that the Historical Society awards the cane, we called Peter Miller, of course. He told us he personally has nothing to do with the Boston Post cane and is aware that the process may be flawed.
Does the Historical Society have no access to the town street list?
Maybe the process needs to be revised.
