Bulletin Board: Canon CCG women’s champ
Phyllis Canon shot a two-day score of 161 to win the Women’s Club Championship at the Country Club of Greenfield over the weekend.
Canon shot 81 and 80 to post the 161 and finish 10 shots ahead of Teresa Varner, who finished second at 171. Anne Lyman won low net with a 146, and Sue Sigda came in second with a 149.
CC of G Senior Club Champ
Don Foberg shot a two-day score of 140 to win the Senior Club Championship at the Country Club of Greenfield over the weekend.
Foberg shot a 73 on Saturday and trailed Jack Varner by two strokes after Varner shot a 71. Foberg came back to shoot a 67 on Sunday, while Varner again shot a 71, giving Foberg the title and leaving Varner two strokes back in second place with a 142. Varner also won low net with a 130.
In the Pebble Beach Division, Chuck Yetter won low gross with a 159, while Steve Proulx and Mark Kennedy tied for second with a 161. Brian Luippold won low net with a 141, while John Stacy and David Perlmutter tied for second with a 142. In the Merion Division, George Fleischner shot a 159 and defeated Hap Eaton, who finished second with a 159. Chris Carme shot a 141 to win low net ahead of Bill Luippold, who came in second with a 145. Terry Blanchard won low gross in the St. Andrews Division with a 147 with Jeff Blomstedt in second with a 153. Norm Morris captured low net with a 135 in front of Matt Pitoniak with a 137.
The Montague Bluefish were outmanned 60-15 in terms of swimmers during their Pioneer Valley Summer Swim League meet against Agawam Saturday, and although the team struggled to compete in a 516-147 loss, the 15 local swimmers placed well in the events they participated in.
Karlie Porter recorded a pair of personal-best times and won the 50 yard butterfly in 37.51 and took second in the 100 individual medley in 1:26.91 to pace the team in the girls’ 11-12 division. Olivia Whittier won the 50 freestyle in 32.36 and swam a personal best 38.24 in the 50 breaststroke to place second. Lucy Brock won the 50 backstroke in a personal best time of 40.70. Ella Potee took second in the 50 free (35.16) and third in the 50 breast (45.96), Tessa Yohan came in second in the 50 back (41.89) and third in the 50 free (35.23), and Allison Wheeler finished second in the 50 butterfly (44.72).
John Kolosewicz won a pair of events in boys’ 11-12 competition with a victory in the 50 free (52.03) and in the 50 back (1:01.24). In boys’ 13-14 action, Morgan Downham won the 50 back (46.22) and finished second in the 50 free (37.10), while Zach Sibley took third in the 50 back (55.44). In boys’ 15-18 action, Jay Fritz won the 50 free (26.48) and placed third in the 50 back (32.63), while Jake Brissette came in second in the 50 free (26.91) and took third in the 100 IM (1:09.02).
In girls’ 9-10 action, Veda Ruth Harvey-Ahmai won the 50 butterfly in 48.40 and placed second in the 100 IM in 1:34.69. Nadia Janus finished third in the 25 back (33.79) in girls’ 8 & under division, while on the boys’ side (8 & under), Ben Tardiff took third in the 25 back in 29.22.
