Scarborough named interim Deerfield highway superintendent

SOUTH DEERFIELD — Kevin Scarborough will now serve as interim Deerfield highway superintendent.

The Board of Selectmen appointed Scarborough, the current facilities manager for the town Highway Department, on Wednesday to fill in after current Highway Director Shawn Patterson leaves on Wednesday.

Patterson has resigned to take a position in Marshfield following 2½ years on the job.

After Patterson’s departure, there will likely be some restructuring of the Highway Department.

Patterson recommended that Scarborough serve as interim head and continue his duties as facilities manager. He suggested Mike Phillips, a foreman, serve as an assistant to take on some of Scarborough’s extra work load and receive a higher pay grade. For the time being, the department doesn’t plan to fill the foreman position.

The board asked the highway crew to come up with job descriptions for Scarborough and Phillips to be recommended and approved by the Personnel Committee.
