Bulletin Board: Garland runs to win

Shamus Garland covered 3.3 miles in a time of 20 minutes, 24 seconds to best a field of 42 in the opening race of the Northfield Road Race Series on Thursday evening.

Ben Sanieski (20:34) finished second, followed by Nathan Santerre (21:40), Alyks Kostecki (23:24) and Jacob Erali (23:56).

Carlee Chaffin (24:33) was the first female finisher and placed eighth overall. She was followed by Angela Killay (27:41) and Cassandra Bigelow (27:55).

Youth baseball

Newt Guilbault

Joey Mosca threw a complete game and struck out eight to lead Booska’s Flooring to a 9-1 win over Greenfield Savings Bank in a Newt Guilbault Community League youth baseball game Thursday night at Campbell Field in Turners Falls.

Tyler Noyes led the Booska’s offense with two hits. Chase Novak added a double, and Dalton Henderson and Dominic Smith each chipped in a single.

Ryan Grace slapped two hits, Mike Patnode doubled and Bryce Hill singled for GSB.

• Elsewhere, Trevor Lapinski homered and hurled a complete game to help Montague Elks Lodge knock off Pipione’s Sport Shop, 6-5, at Campbell Field.

Bailey Young smacked two doubles, Max Leh had a single and double, and Gavin Rubio singled for Elks.

Connor Waitkus finished with a single and triple, Justin Dobias and Andy Craver both ripped a double and Carson Carlisle contributed a single.

Greenfield Minor League

Evan Leaf and Jack Loud combined on a two-hitter to help Denny’s Pantry defeat New Fortune Restaurant, 4-1, in a Greenfield Minor League Major Division youth baseball game Thursday night at Lunt Field.

Dylan Allen led the offense with a single and three RBIs. Leaf tossed four innings of one-hit ball for the win, and added two hits of his own.

Zach Martineau had New Fortune’s only two hits and drove in the lone run. Keith Broussard suffered the loss.

• Elsewhere, Zack Renaud smacked two doubles and single and Jake Cote added three hits as Greenfield Elks Lodge rolled to a four-inning, 23-8 verdict over Maniatty’s Real Estate.

Winning hurler Troy Emond had two hits and three RBIs, Ryan Cote collected two hits and two RBIs, and Jared Hart, Cameron Rice and Anthony Hurd all contributed one hit and two RBIs for Elks.

Hunter Drost had two hits and Chris Ryan doubled for Maniatty’s.

• Finally, Joe Monkiewicz clouted a grand slam home run to power Gilmore-Farrell Insurance to a 16-4 verdict over Smitty’s Pub.

Hunter Roberts and Nick Crocker each added two hits in support of winning pitcher Jacob Bryant.

Colin Brechenser led Smitty’s with two hits.

Tri-County League

Hunter Haughey and Jalen McGraw combined on a no-hitter with nine strikeouts as Northfield Green blanked Winchester, 18-0, in a four-inning Tri-County League Minor Division youth baseball game Thursday night in Northfield.

McGraw belted a grand slam, Haughey, Charlie Boyden and Gabe Smith each added a single and double, and Jacob Balzer ripped a double for Northfield.

Youth softball

Tri-County League playoffs

Isabel May had two hits and one RBI to help Erving beat the Northfield Cougars, 16-14, in the semifinals of the Tri-County League youth softball playoffs Thursday night at Pioneer Valley Regional School in Northfield.

Hailey Jackson and Lindsay Whiteman each added two hits and Annie Johnson struck out seven in the Erving win.

Kelsey Winship had two singles and two RBIs, Jennie Fuller doubled and drove in a run, and Tayla Sadlowski, Zara Pervieux and Stephanie Scoville all added a single and an RBI.

Greenfield Girls’ League

Olivia Whittier had two hits and three RBIs to lead Crocker Communications to a 16-3 win over Franklin Orthopaedic in a Greenfield Girls’ Softball League Ponytail Division game Thursday night at Murphy Park.

Emily Sisson added one hit and three RBIs in support of winning pitcher Jade Tyler, who struck out seven. She also contributed two hits.

Ashley Hasan drove in a run, Hayley Pelletier doubled and Mercedes Morales pitched well for Franklin Ortho.

• Elsewhere, Lydia Wright and Kelsey Richardson doubled to help the Diamond Dusters beat Pipione’s Sport Shop, 11-7.

Olivia Stafford also scored three runs in support of winning pitcher Catie Reynolds, who fanned six.

Cameron Dearborn and Karlie Porter both slapped three hits, Kaitlin Lavoine added two hits and Kaela Hawkins pitched well for Pipione’s.

Hilltown League

Kylie Lowell registered 14 strikeouts to lead the Shelburne Huskies over Ashfield, 15-7, in a Hilltown Softball League game Thursday night in Ashfield.

Ellie Patnode and Avery DuPree had singles for Shelburne.

Ashley Lacross led Ashfield with two single and one triple. Jackie Wells also had three hits and Ciora Sinna had a triple.

Co-rec softball

Montague League

Cassy Jouannet and Kristin Ouellette both went 4-for-4 to power Kustom Auto Body over Montague Mini Self Storage, 25-9, in a five-inning Montague Co-Rec Softball League game Thursday night at Green River Park in Greenfield.

Caleb Parker also had four hits for Kustom Auto.

Tim Lapean went 3-for-3 for MMSS.
