Bulletin Board: Locals earn HFBUA grants
The Hampshire-Franklin Baseball Umpires Association announced the 2014 George Perry Scholarship Fund grants to four baseball players from the Hampshire League this season.
Frontier Regional School’s Niko Ames, Greenfield High School’s Garrett Hudson, Mohawk Trail Regional High School’s Lucas Looman, and Hopkins Academy’s Nick Bernard each received a $500 college scholarships.
Garrett DeForest struck out eight in a two-hit performance on the mound Friday night to pitch New England Greenscape to a 5-1 win over Jankowski Plumbing in a Cal Ripken 50/70 Division game at Sunderland Town Hall Field.
The game was called in the fifth inning due to rain. DeForest added a double and two RBIs to help himself out, while Bryan Baumann had two singles and scored twice. Tynan Creagh, Jack Donahue, Donovan Hoffman, Dylan Apanell and Ben Morse each added hits for Greenscape.
Brett Robinson doubled and drove in a run in the loss, and Shawn Telega added a single and scored a run. Matt Gardner pitched well in the loss, allowing two earned runs in four innings.
Brodie Gagne finished with two hits and earned the win on the mound as Rotary Club bested 99 Restaurant, 9-3, in Greenfield Minor League AAA Division game Friday evening at Lunt Field in Greenfield.
Tyler Podolski also had two hits on the day and earned the save in relief.
Dylan Archer finished with two hits for 99, and Jayson Smith doubled.
• In other action, Derek Lenois, T.J. Thibeault and Gillis MacDougall combined on a one-hitter as Tognarelli Heating and Cooling edged Aubuchon Hardware, 2-1.
Lenois earned the win with six strikeouts, Thibeault struck out five in relief, and MacDougall added three strikeouts to earn the save. Thibeault and Michael Pierce each had a hit for Tognarelli.
Alex Sulda and Ezra Christi combined to strike out 11 in five innings of work for Aubuchon. Christi also had the lone hit in the loss.
Justin Nash went 3-for-3 before the rains came on Friday evening and Turners Falls Pizza House bested Club Allure, 9-5, in a five-inning Greenfield Co-Rec Adult Softball League game at Green River Park.
Jocelyn Dennett finished 2-for-3 with an RBI in the win.
• Elsewhere, Kristy Roberts went 3-for-3 and Tim Carlisle singled, doubled and scored twice as Red Door downed Hot-L Warren, 11-5, in another game shortened to five innings by rain.
Rick Scoble and Hilary Snow both went 3-for-3 for Hot-L.
A wiffleball tournament to benefit the Turners Falls 12 & under Tournament Baseball Team will take place June 1 at 9 a.m.
Cost is $12 per person and teams must have a minimum of three players and a maximum of five. Teams will be guaranteed a minimum of three games. There will be two divisions (14 & under, and Over 14).

The Tom Suchanek Baseball Classic Scholarship Golf Outing will take place on June 28 at the Country Club of Greenfield.
The tournament is a four-person scramble and costs $90 per player if registered prior to June 7, or $100 per player after that date. Entry fee includes 18 of golf with a cart as well as snacks, dinner and a door prize. Prizes will be awarded for Mixed Foursome score, low gross, now net, longest drive, closest to the pin and hole in one.

DRIVE summer programs
DRIVE Hoops is running a number of summer basketball programs.
• The leagues featured are men’s, boys’ varsity, girls’ varsity, boys’ junior varsity, boys’ middle school, girls’ middle school, and boys’ grades 5 & 6.
• The 17th annual FCHC basketball clinic with John Hickey and Angelo Thomas will take place July 21-25 at Greenfield Middle School.
• The DRIVE Hoops Skills Academy with Angelo Thomas will run from July 28-Aug. 1 at Hopkins Academy.

The Greenfield Tennis Association is holding a Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament on June 7 at the Beacon Field Tennis Courts in Greenfield.
The tournament begins at 10 a.m. and lasts all day with 30-minute rest time between matches. Cost is $20 per team and the tournament is open to anyone of high-school age to adult. All proceeds go to benefit the clay courts in town. Each team should bring one can of unopened tennis balls. Deadline to register is June 4.

FC Frontier 11s looking
FC Frontier Soccer Club is looking for boys for its under-11 team for the falls season.
There will be open tryouts for anyone who will be under 11 this fall and interested in playing soccer on June 10 and 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the soccer fields at Sunderland Elementary School.
