Bulletin Board: Deerfield Old Home Days Road Race today

The Deerfield Old Home Days 5K Run/Walk Road Race will be held today at 9 a.m.

Preregistration begins at 8 a.m. in the Frontier Regional School cafeteria, with the race to follow at 9 a.m.

Registration fees are $12 by May 8 and $15 after that date. Registration forms are available online at www.deerfieldma.us.

Prizes will be awarded to the male and female winners in the following categories: Youth (13 to 18), Open (19 to 39), Master (40 to 49), Senior (50 to 59) and Senior Plus (60+). Refreshments will be served.

Race proceeds benefit the Deerfield Recreation Department.

Run Round the Mountain

The Sugarloaf Mountain Athletic Club sponsors the Run Round the Mountain 5K and 10K on May 24 at 8:30 a.m.

Proceeds will benefit the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Deerfield. Cost is $20 for the 10K and $15 for the 5K if registered prior to race day or $5 more if registered on race day. Cash prizes of $50 will be awarded to the top male and female if that individual breaks the current male and female course records in the 10K, and $50 will be awarded to two raffle winners during post-race awards ceremony.

To register go to runreg.com and online registration ends on Wednesday. Race-day registration will take place on the morning of the event.

Tennis

Greenfield Tennis League

The Greenfield Tennis League is now accepting registrations for the summer season.

The league is co-ed and open to anyone 16 years old and older. Divisions are set up by playing ability and all matches take place on clay courts.

Cost is $25 for residents of Greenfield and $30 for nonresidents. Deadline to register is Sunday.

Greenfield Junior League

The Greenfield Junior Tennis League is accepting registrations for the upcoming season.

The league is open from June 19 through Aug. 7 for boys and girls in grades 6 through 12, meeting on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Davis Street courts.

Youth basketball

Basketball Blast sign-ups

The third annual Keene State “EDGE” Basketball Blast will take place on May 31 and June 1 at Keene State College.

The tournament is open to boys’ and girls’ teams in grades 6 through 11, and each team is guaranteed to play at least three games. Cost is $285 per team.

Last year, the tournament drew more than 45 teams, and all games are played in one gym. Special requests accepted and multi-team discounts are given.

DRIVE summer programs

DRIVE Hoops is running a number of summer basketball programs.

• The leagues featured are men’s, boys’ varsity, girls’ varsity, boys’ junior varsity, boys’ middle school, girls’ middle school, and boys’ grades 5 & 6.

• The 17th annual FCHC basketball clinic with John Hickey and Angelo Thomas will take place July 21-25 at Greenfield Middle School.

• The DRIVE Hoops Skills Academy with Angelo Thomas will run from July 28-Aug. 1 at Hopkins Academy.

Deerfield River Spey Day

The Deerfield River Spey & Fly Day will take place on June 7 at the Zoar Outdoor picnic area on the banks of the Deerfield River.

Admission is free and all proceeds will to to “Reel Recovery,” a non-profit organization that conduct free fly-fishing retreats for men recovering from all forms of cancer.

There will be free barbeque during the event, which features demonstrations, equipment talk, and more. People will have a chance to try their hand at casting and can fish for free during the weekend (no license needed).

Ravens information

The New England Ravens Baseball organization is looking for players to play on its 14U and 16U AAU baseball teams.

The Ravens are based out of Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, N.H., and under the direction of FPU baseball coach Jayson King. The Ravens are the 2013 AAU National runners-up and garnered the Sportsmanship Award in Ft. Myers, Fla.

• Goal Scoring and Goal Saving Clinic on June 8 at the Wilbraham & Monson Academy turf field.

• Specialty Skills Clinic on June 8 at the Wilbraham & Monson Academy turf field.

• Summer Training Program will take place on Thursday nights from July 10 through Aug. 14 on the turf field at Holyoke High School.

• Goal Scoring and Goal Saving Clinic on July 26 at the Wilbraham & Monson Academy turf field.

• Specialty Skills Clinic on July 26 at the Wilbraham & Monson Academy turf field.

• Field Hockey Skills & Drills clinic will take place from Aug. 11 through Aug. 14 at Smith Vocational & Agricultural High School in Northampton.

Volleyball

Local sand league

The Montague Parks & Recreation Department is offering an Adult Volleyball League on the new sand court at Unity Park in Turners Falls.

The league is open to people ages 18 years & older and will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The league will begin later this month or early in June and cost is still being determined.
