Mary Lyon Foundation fete set for Sunday

SHELBURNE FALLS — Mary Lyon Foundation this weekend will celebrate the end of a successful school year and honor individuals who have supported local education.

This event, a celebration of excellence in local education, is open to the public. There will be music, awards, raffle prizes, student exhibits and a presentation by the 2014 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year, Anne Marie Bettencourt Osheyack, of Northampton Schools. It takes place Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Shelburne Buckland Community Center.

Music will be performed by the Heath Elementary School strings program.

Another special guest will be Sandy Bouras from New Hampshire, daughter of Roy Frude, the Arms Academy science teacher who was the very first Massachusetts teacher of the year in 1960.

Those receiving awards this Sunday are:

Outstanding Mohawk Graduate Award, Kevin Hollister

Spirit of Adventure Award, Leslie and Ed Grinnell of Eddie’s Wheels.

Business Award, Berkshire East.

Career Award, John Sloan, former head of a division of Chrysler Corporation.

The Mary Lyon Foundation was founded to provide innovative educational support for West County children, schools and school families in Ashfield, Buckland, Charlemont, Colrain, Hawley, Heath, Plainfield, Rowe and Shelburne.
