Letter: Chase best qualified

I am writing to support Fred Chase’s candidacy for Gill selectman. Fred is a lifelong resident, business owner and taxpayer, and has raised his family here. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing him for 33 years as neighbor, friend and mentor. He’s a hardworking, dedicated and respected individual and has the temperament and time to contribute to managing our town affairs.

Fred has experience with the daily operation of our Highway Department due to his years spent working with it, and has 20 years with the Fire Department, retiring from there as officer/engineer. He’s worked for the Gill Police Department for 27 years, much of the time as senior officer, has 15 years as dog officer and several years on our Finance Committee. Fred is currently our senior town constable, a position held for over 30 years.

Since 2010, Fred has served as president of the Antique Truck Club of America and is actively involved with the operation of 33 chapters, a membership of 3,000 people from all 50 states, Canada, Sweden, United Kingdom and Australia. When he took charge of this not-for-profit organization, it was on the verge of bankruptcy. Under his leadership, financial guidance and changes in policies and procedures, this organization is now, 41/2 years later, working at a 35 percent positive cash flow and growing monthly.

Fred has an extensive knowledge of Gill history and is known by The Nature Conservancy as the longtime watchman of Stacy Mountain, now known as The Stacy Mountain Preserve, a 169-acre area devoted to the preservation and protection of endangered plant and wildlife species. When this project was in the development stages, Fred donated a 101/2-acre portion of his property as an incentive for moving forward with the protection of this scenic mountain preserve.

I believe that Fred is the person best qualified to serve as Gill selectman, and urge friends and neighbors to vote for Fred Chase on May 19.

CYNTHIA DALE
