Town Council candidates debate tonight
GREENFIELD — The candidates for five Town Council seats will gather tonight in the studio in Greenfield Community Television to discuss some of the town’s most pressing issues and answer questions that will be asked by a panel of business owners, political party heads and reporters.
Former Town Councilor Barbara Tillmans is producing the event, which will be held and taped for a later broadcast at GCTV from 6 to 8 p.m. The debate will also be available on GCTV’s website (www.gctv.org) within a couple of days.
Tillmans said George Gohl, co-owner of Greenfield Garden Cinemas and chairman of the Greenfield Republican Committee, and Donovan Eastman, former Greenfield School Committee member and chairman of the Greenfield Democratic Town Committee, reporter Anita Fritz of The Recorder and a representative from WHAI radio station will be panelists.
Shelburne Selectman Joseph Judd will moderate.
Town Council President Mark Wisnewski and former Town Councilor Isaac Mass will answer questions in their quests for the only at-large seat up for grabs this year, while Thomas DeHoyos, currently a member of the town’s Conservation Commission, and incumbent Steven Ronhave will answer questions from Precinct 5.
Incumbent Alfred Siano and challenger Ronald Weaver will be there from Precinct 2, Robert Wainstein and Penny Ricketts from Precinct 5, and Christopher Miller, who will run against incumbent Hillary Hoffman in Precinct 6.
While many of the challengers have said they decided to run because it is time for change, the incumbents have said they would like to continue to serve Greenfield.
The annual election will be held June 10.
