Bulletin Board: Moriarty powers NMH softball rout
Courtney Moriarty went 4-for-4 with two doubles and an inside-the-park home run as part of a 25-hit attack to power Northfield Mount Hermon School to a five-inning, 19-4 rout of Cushing Academy in prep softball action Wednesday at Crossley Field in Gill.
Paige Michel also went 4-for-4 and drove in two runs, Shannon Duffy went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Lauren Downes of Shelburne Falls (four RBIs) and Maura Joyce each finished 3-for-4 for the Hoggers (7-4 overall), who took an 11-0 lead after two innings and cruised to the easy win.
Maddie Spencer-Orrell surrendered four hits and four walks while striking out nine to earn the win in the circle.
NMH travels to Williston-Northampton School today.
Jordan Dow racked up four goals and three assists to power NMH to a 16-2 verdict over Winchendon School in prep boys’ lacrosse action Wednesday in Gill.
James Gittzus added three goals, Luke Leyden of Northfield added two goals and two assists, and Paul Butler contributed two goals for the winners.
Johnny Arena earned the win in his first career start in goal.
Camille Belletete scored four goals for NMH in an 11-9 loss to Loomis Chaffee School in a prep girls’ lacrosse game Wednesday at Thorndike Field in Gill.
Mary Newton collected three goals and one assist, and Cas Szwajkowski chipped in two goals and one assist for the Hoggers (5-7).
Bri Young made 12 saves in goal.
Deerfield Academy bested NMH, 9-5, in a prep baseball game Wednesday in Gill.
Tanner Jillson belted a two-run homer for NMH (2-7, 1-5 CNEPSBL), while Matt Creonte was the losing pitcher.
The Greenfield Middle School softball scored 11 times in the fourth inning to break open a close game and beat Athol Middle School, 18-6, in a six-inning contest Wednesday in Athol.
Samantha Smith went 3-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBIs for the winners.
Lexxie Rowell added two hits and three RBIs, and Audrey Bresciano and Marisa Sullivan both added two RBIs for the winners. Olivia Joy struck out 10 to earn the complete-game win.
On Tuesday, Smith went 4-for-4 with a double, triple and four RBIs to lead GMS over Hopkins, 19-4, in five innings in Greenfield.
Bresciano collected two hits and three RBIs, Rowell and Aidan Bai each drove in a pair of runs and Chantal Bardsley contributed one RBI in support of winning pitcher Joy, who fanned eight in the complete-game effort.
Trevor Lapinski fanned 13 batters to help Montague Elks Lodge beat Booska’s Flooring, 7-3, in a Newt Guilbault Community League youth baseball game Wednesday evening in Turners Falls.
Glenn Sumner led a balanced attack with two doubles.
Lapinski, Hugh Cyhowski, Jacob Sak and Max Leh all added singles for the winners.
Nick Lyons smacked two hits, Colby Mailloux added a double and Dalton Henderson a single for Booska’s.
Mailloux and losing hurler Chase Novak combined for 12 strikeouts on the mound.
• In other action, Jack Putala hit two doubles and drove in three runs to help Greenfield Savings Bank to a 7-4 win over St. Kazimierz Society.
Cayden Lehtomaki and Jack Hamilton each had one hit in the win. Jake LaBelle struck out five to earn the win.
David Carey finished with two hits in the loss, and Vinnie Carme added one hit.
Tyler Hunter slapped three hits to help Northfield Blue defeat Northfield/Bernardston Green, 8-1, in a Tri-County League Cal Ripken Baseball game Wednesday night in Northfield.
Pat Thayer added a single, double and an RBI in support of winning pitcher Josh Kirley, who fanned nine in three innings.
Owen Deane, Noah Feuss and Bradley Norwood singled for N/B Green.
• Elsewhere, Gaelen Mast hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to put Erving Eagles ahead for good and the Eagles went on to register an 11-8 victory over Winchester at Zilinski Field in Erving.
Jakob Burnett hit a solo home run in the win. Lucas Upham hit a two-run double, and Jacob Kozma finished with two hits. Burnett struck out six in relief to earn the win.
Adam Winter struck out five in the loss.
Declan Cullinane pitched 41/ 3 innings for the win as New England Greenscape downed Ford of Northampton, 12-5, in a Cal Ripken Baseball 50/70 game Wednesday night in Northampton.
Tynan Creagh had a single and scored three times for the winner, while Bryan Baumann, James Morgan, Ryan Antes and Bennett Pitcher also added a single.
Elsewhere, Jankowski Plumbing lost to Hadley Police, 4-1, at Sunderland Town Hall Field.
Kouji Ushida and Logan Dapprich had two hits each for Hadley.
Shawn Telega paced the Jankowski offense with a single and double. Gabe Gochinski and Matt Gardner each added a single. Corbin Blight fanned six in four innings.
BGH Dental downed Sokoloski’s Landscaping, 9-2, in a Frontier Cal Ripken Minor Division youth baseball game Tuesday night in Old Deerfield.
Jackson Harper and Luke Hrinda combined to strike out seven for BGH.
Coleman Hartner, Noah Burns and Dylan Robinson shared the pitching duties for Sokoloski’s and combined for eight strikeouts.

Conte Office Interiors and Crocker Communications played to an 8-8 stalemate in a Greenfield Girls’ Softball League play Tuesday night at Murphy Park.
Novelyn Washington led Conte with a single, double and three RBIs, while Courtney Mitchell recorded five strikeouts.
Paige Bernier had two hits and Jade Tyler fanned 11 in the circle for Crocker.
Stephanie Scoville hit two singles and drove in two runs as the Northfield Cougars doubled up Erving in a Tri-County League softball game Wednesday in Northfield.
Scoville struck out seven to earn the win. Jasmine Terounzo hit a two-run single for the Cougars, and Lily Faille singled and drove in two runs.
Lindsay Whiteman doubled for Erving. Haley Jackson singled and drove in a run, and Annie Johnson struck out one.

Hilda Worden recorded a 0 for top point quota in the Thomas Memorial Women’s Golf League on Wednesday in Turners Falls.
