Education secretary to visit Deerfield

SOUTH DEERFIELD — State Education Secretary Matthew Malone will visit Frontier Regional School and Deerfield Elementary School today. At 1 p.m., Malone, will meet with students and staff. Malone routinely visits schools throughout the commonwealth. He was invited by Rep. Stephen Kulik.

Meet town administrator finalists Wednesday

SOUTH DEERFIELD — On Wednesday , from 5 to 6 p.m., townspeople can meet and greet the three town administrator candidates.

The Board of Selectmen will hold a joint interview with the three candidates immediately following.

The three finalists are Michael Bissonnette, who served four terms as mayor of Chicopee, Andrew Golas, who is the executive assistant for the town of Palmer, and George R. Zimmerman, the 10-year elected city treasurer in Northampton.

The public is invited to submit questions by email or postal delivery to Patricia Kroll at patk@town.deerfield.ma.us no later than Tuesday at 2 p.m. All questioners must be identified. Anonymous questions will not be considered.

South County EMS keeps its name

SOUTH DEERFIELD — The regional paramedic ambulance service in southern Franklin County will keep its common name, South County Emergency Medical Service.

The ambulance service, based in Deerfield, Whately and Sunderland, had tried changing its official name to the Medical Authority of South County. Due to a legal technicality, the name will stay South County EMS, Chief Zachary Smith said.
