WMECO offering free energy efficiency aid in Greenfield

GREENFIELD — Small downtown businesses in the Franklin County town of Greenfield could soon be benefiting from a new energy efficiency pilot program offered by Western Mass Electric Co.

Bolstered by the successful roll-out of its Main Street Energy Efficiency Pilot Program in two other Western Mass. communities last year, the company is offering the same benefits to small downtown businesses in Greenfield.

“The popularity and success of our Main Street Energy Efficiency Pilot Program in Western Mass. is exceeding expectations,” said Tilak Subrahmanian, vice president of Energy Efficiency at Northeast Utilities, WMECo’s parent company. “We’re proud of what the Main Street program is accomplishing and we’re looking forward to launching it in downtown Greenfield.”

“We appreciate the recognition by WMECO of our energy focused services, initiatives and programs,” said William Martin, Mayor of Greenfield. “It is not only rewarding to be recognized as a leader in the “green” field of energy conservation, efficiency and generation, but sharing the fruits of our work with the business community is particularly gratifying.

“The WMECO Main Street program is a credit to the utility for creating an opportunity at no cost to the business owners and I will actively walk the streets with WMECO to encourage the business owners to participate.”

Specifically designed to offer assistance to mom-and-pop shops in traditional downtown settings, WMECo’s Main Street Energy Efficiency Pilot Program begins with a no-cost energy assessment. Based on the results of this walk-through assessment, upgrades, offered at no-cost to the participating businesses, may include new lighting, occupancy sensors, programmable thermostats and water saving devices.

The Main Street Energy Efficiency Pilot Program is a complete turnkey service. WMECo’s pre-approved contractor will make all the necessary arrangements for the installation of efficiency upgrades at participating businesses. Licensed electricians will perform the installations using quality materials, backed by a full guarantee.
