Deerfield company helps bring bullet rail to California

Recorder Staff

SOUTH DEERFIELD — A Deerfield company has designed equipment being used to create the first bullet train in California.

RCM Power Engineering is providing a remanufactured mobile rail car mover, a Trackmobile 3 TM, for the French company Alstom Transport to move high speed rail train car bodies.

RCM Power rebuilt the trackmobile with upgraded powertrain, fuel systems, controls, rail equipment and bodywork.

It would be used as part of California’s project to lay 700 miles of tracks between San Francisco and Los Angeles for trains running more than 200-miles-per-hour. The multi-billion project would link Sacramento to San Diego.

Alstom Transport, a leading provider of services for the U.S. power generation and rail transportation industries, has chosen the Deerfield company’ trackmobile — according to RCM — because of its versatility, quality reconstruction and its conversion for propane fuel, meeting state emission standards.

Trackmobiles operate on both rail and road, which allows them to move rail cars on tracks and then drive onto roads to other parts of a rail yard facility.

RCM was formed in 2011 to supply railroad locomotives and bi-modal rail car movers. The Deerfield business works with industries throughout North America, from bird seed manufacturing to transportation companies to oil and gas exploration and refining companies.
