Tag sale donations sought for Arms Library campaign

SHELBURNE FALLS — The Arms Library will be host a tag sale on May 25 (Memorial Day weekend) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the “backyard” by the rear entrance. All proceeds will benefit the library’s “Put a Roof on It” Campaign to save the Pratt Memorial Library Building, home of the Arms Library.

Library lovers can help by donating items for sale and by volunteering to assist at the event. The Fundraising Committee is looking for household items, books, CDs, DVDs, furniture, small appliances in working condition, decorative items, toys and sporting equipment. Clothing, old computers or television sets will not be accepted.

Those wishing to donate items should contact Carol Kelshaw at 413-625-2960 or Nancy Eisenstein at 508-494-5845. They will be happy to pick up your donated items until May 20. Donations are not to be dropped off at the library.

Those willing to donate time helping to set up, work at the sale or clean up afterwards, will be able sign up for a desired time slot on the sign-up sheet at the Arms Library next month.

To date, the effort to save the library building has brought in over $250,000, which includes $181,000 in donations, events and grants and $70,000 from the Town of Shelburne. Major grants are being sought in the hopes the Pratt Memorial Library Building Committee can begin Phase I of the restoration this fall, which entails fixing the exterior of the building.

The firm of Jones Whitsett Architects of Greenfield is developing detailed plans for the restoration and is working directly with the Pratt Memorial Library Building Committee.
