Two injured in Deerfield crash
DEERFIELD — Two drivers on Routes 5 and 10 were injured Thursday afternoon, after a southbound driver attempted to turn left onto Elm Street, crossing into the path of the northbound car.
The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. According to Deerfield Police Officer Mark Puchalski, the first driver was cited for failing to yield the right-of-way at an intersection. Puchalski said he could not release the names of the drivers without authorization to do so from the police chief.
Both drivers were taken by ambulance to the Baystate Franklin Medical Center. Puchalski said their injuries were not life-threatening. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Both cars were badly damaged and had to be towed.
Puchalski said traffic on Route 5 and 10 was backed up while the accident scene was cleared, but the road was not closed.
Besides the Deerfield Police, the South Deerfield Fire Department and the Deerfield and Sunderland ambulances responded to the scene.
