Bulletin Board: NMH gets past Holderness

Mary Newton scored three goals and added one assist to help Northfield Mount Hermon School edge Holderness School, 12-11, in prep girls’ lacrosse action Wednesday at Thorndike Field in Gill.

Camille Belletete also rippled the twine three times, while Ellen Arena and Cas Szwajkowski each had two goals for NMH. Young finished with 13 saves.

Boys’ lacrosse

Luke Leyden of Northfield scored four goals in NMH’s 11-7 loss to Phillips Andover Academy in a boys’ lacrosse game Wednesday in Andover.

Peter-Owen Hayward netted a pair of goals and Jordan Dow added a goal and an assist for the Hoggers.

Boys’ tennis

NMH defeated Wilbraham & Monson Academy, 6-1, in its prep boys’ tennis season opener on Wednesday in Wilbraham.

Carlos Torres Gracida, Matt Swiman, Ned Roosevelt and Valentin Perez Diaz all won in singles and doubles for the Hoggers.

Baseball

NMH dropped a 6-2 decision to Choate Rosemary Hall in prep baseball play Wednesday in Gill.

Sam Kasten laced two hits and knocked in a run, Chris Lasch also had two hits, and Tanner Jillson totaled one hit and one RBI for the Hoggers (0-2).

Softball

Frontier wins

Frontier Middle School rallied from an early 5-0 deficit to beat Pioneer Middle School, 12-9, in softball action Wednesday in South Deerfield.

Ella Deane led the Frontier offense by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. She also pitched five innings of relief to earn the win.

Olivia Rowe went 3-for-5 with one RBI and Shelby Avery was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Pioneer.

Basketball

DRIVE at NNE championship

Five teams form DRIVE Hoops AAU boys’ basketball program traveled to the Northern New England Championships over the weekend in Portland, Maine.

The DRIVE 13/14U squad advanced to the championship game, where it fell to Black Bear Elite of Maine, 60-32. It finished 2-2 overall, with wins over the Maine Crusaders (51-30) and North Shore Bobcats (40-23). Their other loss was to Mass Elite, 43-36.

Hunter Campbell led the locals with 11 points per game, and Brandyn Robinson added 7 per outing for DRIVE.

DRIVE’s 17/18U squad went 2-1, as it beat MEBC of Maine (83-57) and Conn. Northstars (62-60), and lost to Mass Elite (57-55). Brendin Woodard led the locals with 15 points a game, and Tim Hoar finished with 13 per game.

The 14U team also went 2-1. They defeated Conn. Northstars (51-28) and Blue Wave of Maine (64-52) and fell to Mass Elite (65-60). Jon Morrison poured in a team-high 21 points per game.

The 15Us wound up 1-2. They edged MBC of Maine (40-39) and lost to MB Nation of Maine (53-39) and Next Level Athletics of Maine (74-59). Connor Joy hit for 12 points per game and Jackson Pitcher followed with 10 a game.

Spencer Butterfield led the way with 13 points per game and Jalen Sanders had 10 per contest for the 16U squad (0-3), which lost to MB Nation (86-70), NH Hustle (54-44) and MBC-Maine (70-55).

DRIVE 10s/12s at ZG tourney

The DRIVE Hoops 10U and 12U teams competed in the ZG War in Western Mass. AAU boys basketball tournament over the weekend in Springfield.

The DRIVE 10U team went 2-1 with wins over CBC-Conn. (40-32) and Mass Hoop Jaguars (33-18), and a loss to the Migs-Conn. (45-21). Andrew Ciaglo dumped in 13 a game for the locals.

The DRIVE 12U squad went 0-3, losing to L.I. Lightning, N.Y. (40-21), Mass Hoop Jaguars (50-27) and the Commanders (28-20). Nasir Barnes and Xavier Santiago both averaged 6 points a game.
