Letter: Skiing and schools
Nordic ski clubs are good for area schools.
Since most kids depend largely on their schools to provide recreational activities then any new ideas or programs should not be overlooked.
Amherst Regional High School has had an ongoing cross-country ski program for quite some time. (Search online for photos and information.) These high-schoolers compete in state championships and other regional competitions. They practice on the Cherry Hill golf course in North Amherst and do their workout drills right on their school athletic field. Much of their meets are held at Nordic ski centers in the Berkshires. Coaching and parents’ participation is not lacking. So perhaps an activity of sorts is something to dwell on over the summer months and something to consider for next winter.
Exercise comes in many forms.
