Bulletin Board: Jobst grabs hoops honors

Dane Jobst has been selected to the and National Basketball Coaches Association All-Northeast Region teams.

The Athol native and Worcester State University senior is the only men’s basketball player out of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) chosen for both teams. Jobst averaged 16.6 points per game and 13.4 rebounds per game in 26 games this season. He topped the conference in rebounding and was third in scoring, and was also 10th in the league in free-throw percentage (.662), 11th in field goal percentage (.458) and 15th in assists per game with 2. Jobst’s rebounding numbers also put him third in the nation among Division III players.

Jobst was also maned the MASCAC Player of the Year for Worcester, which finished 12-14 overall and tied for second in the final MASCAC regular season standings.

GHS baseball drive

The Greenfield High School baseball team will hold a bottle and can drive on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at Ruggeri’s Beverage & Redemption Center on Deerfield Street in Greenfield.

Anyone wishing to have a player from the team drop by and pick up cans and bottles can call Tom Suchanek at 774-4535. Bottles and cans may also be dropped off at Ruggeri’s during this time.


Babe Ruth registrations

The Franklin County Babe Ruth Baseball League will hold Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle registrations for the upcoming season tonight from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Greenfield Middle School.

There will also be registration sessions at the same time and place on Thursday. The fee for Babe Ruth is $100, and because Mantle is tryout-based, no money is needed at that time.

Adult softball

Montague Rec registrations

The Montague Parks & Recreation Department is accepting registrations for new teams interested in joining the Co-ed Adult Softball League.

The league is ASA-sanctioned with umpires and team registration is $550. The season runs from May through August, and games are held on Monday and Thursday evenings.

Westfield State clinic

The Westfield State University football program will host a football clinic for players ages 13 to 18 on Aug. 6 to 8 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Alumni Field.

The Westfield State coaching staff and current players will provide instruction. The focus of the clinic will be on offensive and defensive fundamentals. Cost is $50 per day or $120 for all three days. There is a $10 discount per day for registering prior to May 23.
