Colrain bridge hearing tonight

COLRAIN — A public hearing takes place tonight for a $7 million replacement of the Jacksonville Road Bridge over the East Branch of the North River, between the town center and Colrain Central School.

The hearing will take place inside the school, beginning at 7 p.m.

According to Massachusetts Department of Transportation spokesman Michael Verseckes, the public hearing is both to inform the public about the project details, and to solicit comments on how the designs or construction may impact the town.

Verseckes said the project is to be advertised in the spring of 2015, and will probably take two years to complete.

Plans call for full replacement of the bridge, with new concrete piers and abutments.

Additionally, it calls for new drainage, asphalt pavement and granite curbing, shoulders and a shared travel lane for bicycles.

Plans will be on display a half-hour before the hearing, and an engineer will be there to answer questions.
