Bulletin Board: Jobst earns MASCAC Player of Year honor
Dane Jobst of Athol was selected as the Massachusetts Small College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player of the Year and received the top spot on the first team of the All-MASCAC Men’s Basketball Team.
Jobst, a senior power forward at Worcester State, was a key component in leading the Lancers to a third-place finish in the conference and first-round home game. He is averaging 16.6 points and a conference-leading 13.4 rebounds per game with 18 double-doubles. Jobst also has shot 45.5 percent from the field, 35.2 from beyond the arc (25-for-71) and 67 percent form the foul line.
Jobst, in his second season at power forward with Worcester after transferring from St. Joseph’s College (Vt.), is fourth in the MASCAC in scoring and ranks in the top 15 in all three shooting percentage categories. Nationally, Jobst entered the week ranked second overall in the NCAA Division III rebounds per game.
Pielock qualifies for nationals
Julia Pielock of Deerfield was one of 11 swimmers from Connecticut College to qualify for the 2014 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships.
Pielock, a senior who was named All-American for the second straight season, finished 10th in the 50-yard freestyle at the 2013 NCAA Championship.
The championships will be held March 19-22 at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.
The Newt Guilbault Community Baseball League will hold its last-chance registrations Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Turners Falls High School gymnasium.
Tryouts will also be held that day, from 10 a.m. to noon at the gym.
The league is open to residents of all area school communities except Greenfield, Mohawk and Frontier. Cost is $75. Bring a birth certificate.
The Greenfield Minor League will hold registrations for the 2014 season at the Lunt Field club house on three dates in early March.
Registrations will take place on Saturday (10 a.m. to noon), March 7 (5:30 to 8 p.m.) and March 8 (10 a.m. to noon).
The league is a division of Cal Ripken Baseball and open to area youths ages 6 through 12. Cost is $75 per player with a $10 sibling discount. Financial assistance is available. Parents should bring a birth certificate to the registrations.

FC Babe Ruth sign-ups
The Franklin County Babe Ruth Baseball League will hold Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle registrations for the upcoming season at Greenfield Middle School on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Early registration fee for Babe Ruth is $85.

Deerfield Rec sign-ups
The Deerfield Recreation Baseball and Softball teams will hold registrations on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Deerfield Town Hall in South Deerfield.
Baseball is open to kids in grades K through 4 (T-ball, Rookie and Minor League levels), while softball is open to grades 2 through 6.

Legion players sought
The American Legion Post 81 baseball team is looking for anyone interested in trying out for the team for the summer 2014 baseball season.
This season Post 81 will field Senior (19 and under) and Junior (17 and under) teams. All prospective players must register — even those from a previous roster — by calling Tim Capuano (413-222-1372), Bill Phelps (774-3954) or Kyle Phelps (522-7317).
Tryouts will be conducted at Veterans Memorial Field in Greenfield on April 26, May 3 and May 4. The teams will be selected on May 10.
Franklin County Technical School will host its sixth annual Dodgeball Tournament on March 21 to benefit the school’s girls’ soccer program.
Teams are open to anyone and should consist of five players. Cost is $25 per team, with cash prizes of $200 and $100 for the top two teams. The double-elimination tournament begins at 6 and ends when one team remains. Teams must register by March 18, and the tournament is limited to 42 teams.
