Ann Banash won’t run for 8th term
Served on Gill Selectboard for 21 years
GILL — Nomination papers are available for the annual town election, with an open seat on the Selectboard.
Ann Banash, a Gill Selectboard member for 21 years, is not running for what would have been her eighth term.
Reached in Florida Wednesday, Banash said she is not running for reelection because she is spending more time in Florida and her home in Gill is for sale. “And that’s the only reason. I love being a selectman in Gill. I love Gill,” Banash said. Banash has participated in meetings by phone from Florida for the past two winters.
“Remote participation has been a wonderful thing but it still needs somebody there,” she said.
The offices on the ballot this year, all for three-year terms unless otherwise specified, are:
Selectboard-sewer commissioner: vacant.
Assessor: incumbent Ray Purington.
Cemetery commissioner: incumbent Carrie Stevens.
Cemetery commissioner: two year term, vacant.
Board of Health: incumbent Edward Galipault Jr.
Library trustee: incumbent Megan Bathory-Peeler.
Three town constables: incumbents Craig Gaudry, Fred Chase II and Fred Chase III.
Tax collector: incumbent Veronica LaChance.
The last day to obtain nomination papers is March 27 and the deadline to submit them to the Board of Registrars via the town clerk’s office is 5 p.m. March 31.
Nomination papers are available in the town clerk’s office. Twenty signatures of Gill registered voters are necessary to run for office.
The election will be held May 19 at the Gill Fire Station, with polls open from noon to 8 p.m. The deadline to register to vote is April 29.
