Bulletin Board: Mooney, Goclowski prep ski champions

Eaglebrook School’s Zach Mooney and Northfield Mount Hermon School’s Camila Goclowski claimed the individual regular-season titles, while the Deerfield Academy A boys and NMH girls captured team honors in the Mount Institute Ski League on Wednesday.

Mooney, a Charlemont resident, racked up 372 points to edge Deerfield-A’s Sam Armstrong by 11 points. Gill resident Zach Leeds from the NMH-A squad was third overall with 356, followed by the DA-A trio of Jean-Pierre Torras (346), Henry Sanford (325) and Jack Paul (324) in fourth through sixth, respectively.

Other top-10 finishers included Jack Burkitt of NMH-A in seventh (322), Pablo Borra Paley of NMH-A in ninth (320), and Rowe resident Madison Baker of DA-A in 10th (310).

DA-A won the team championship with 50 points, NMH-A placed second with 45, and Eaglebrook took third with 38.

Goclowski, a Montague resident, led the Hoggers to the team title and also registered 281 points to win the Amy Spenser Cup as the MISL’s top girls’ skier.

Hogger teammate Tory Dobbin finished third with 275 points, Alaina Chen of Deerfield came in fourth (273), Shannon Duffy of NMH-A was tied for sixth (253), and Rose Flanagan of NMH A wound up 10th (238).

NMH-A cruised to the team title with 40 points. Deerfield placed third with 30.

In the single-run season finale at Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, Mooney captured the boys’ slalom in 41.34 seconds, followed by Hunter Quigg of DA (44.46). Mark DesLauriers of the Deerfield B team took fourth (45.60) and Armstrong was fifth (45.83).

DA-A won the team race with 318 points, followed by NMH-A (313) and Eaglebrook (296).

Goclowski led the local contingent on the girls’ side with her runner-up finish of 48.60 in the slalom. Dobbin came in third (48.72), while Duffy was fourth (49.88).

NMH won the team race 260 points. Mohawk Trail Regional High School came in third with 205.


Kyle Redmond stopped 27 shots Wednesday but Northfield Mount Hermon School suffered a 3-1 setback to Phillips Andover Academy in a boys’ prep hockey game at McCollum Arena in Gill.

Kevin Dazchevich tallied the lone goal for NMH, which dropped to 19-9-2 on the season.


IAS schedule

The Indoor Action Sports golf range will be open on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the IAS Dome in Greenfield.

The range will also be open on Sunday from 1 to 3.

Legion registrations

The American Legion Post 81 baseball team is looking for anyone interested in trying out for the team for the summer 2014 baseball season.

This season the team will have both a Junior and Senior Division team, opening it up to more players. Players must be 19 years of age or younger to be eligible to play. To be eligible to tryout, candidates must get on the consolidated player registration form by calling Tim Capuano (222-1372), Bill Phelps (774-3954) or Kyle Phelps (522-7317). Tryouts will be conducted at Veterans Memorial Field in Greenfield in late April or early May.

Deerfield Rec signups

The Deerfield Recreation Baseball and Softball teams will hold registrations Tuesday and again on March 4 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Deerfield Town Hall in South Deerfield.

Baseball is open to kids in grades K-4 (T-ball, Rookie and Minor League levels), while softball is open to grades 2 through 6.

FC Babe Ruth registrations

Franklin County Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle will hold registrations for the upcoming season at Greenfield Middle School on March 4 through 6 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Early registration fee for Babe Ruth is $85.
