Greenfield supt. search moving along
GREENFIELD — The search for Greenfield’s next superintendent is still on track. School officials interested in the job have until the end of this month to apply.
The Massachusetts Association of School Committees, a paid consultant in this search, will then select eight to 12 semi-finalists for an interview. A search committee will interview them during several days in March and then nominate three to five finalists to present to the full Greenfield School Committee.
The full committee hopes to interview candidates and select one by the end of April. Still, Mayor William Martin told the committee last week that it should begin preparing a “second option” in case the search does not produce a promising candidate.
The next superintendent is to take over in July for Susan Hollins, who is retiring after leading the department for six years. The school board is prepared to offer a three-year contract with a $135,000 annual salary, although that will be negotiable.
Patricia Correira, a field representative for the school committee association, wouldn’t say how many applications she’s received so far. But she added that most superintendent jobs see a surge of activity in the week leading up to the deadline.
She said the job listing was posted on the websites of multiple national school associations and mailed to superintendents and assistant superintendents across the state. The association purchased an advertisement in the newspaper Education Week.
The Greenfield School Committee is seeking a person who is licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Massachusetts superintendent. The school board wants someone with 10 years of public school experience, including at least three years as teacher and three years as an administrator. The job requires a master’s degree, but an advanced degree is preferred.
