Deerfield School, Finance boards to talk budget

SOUTH DEERFIELD — On Tuesday , the Deerfield Elementary School Committee will meet with the Finance Committee to discuss its proposed $4,335,693 budget for next year.

The Board of Selectmen, with the urging of Finance Committee Chairman Albert Olmstead, requested all town departments limit spending for next year to 2 percent increases.

The tentative school budget is a 4.17 percent increase over the current year and includes several personnel cuts including a foreign language teacher, library assistant and special needs nurse.

The School Committee has not approved a final budget yet. At its upcoming meeting, the committee plans to ask whether it is possible to increase the school budget slightly to avoid some personnel cuts.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. in Deerfield Town Offices.
