ANNUAL SLATE ROOF PRESS POETRY CHAPBOOK CONTEST: The winner becomes an active member of the press and will have his/her chapbook published by Slate Roof. They publish limited-edition, art-quality chapbooks with letterpress covers, beautiful books by an award-winning bookmaker. Winners must make a three year commitment to the press, including monthly meetings in Greenfield, and share work responsibilities for many aspects of publishing. Submit no more than 28 pages of poetry. $25 reading fee. Deadline (upload/postmark) March 31. FRIENDS OF THE GREENFIELD PUBLIC LIBRARY announces its 23rd annual Poet’s Seat Poetry Contest. Open to all Franklin County residents and students. Submit up to three poems. Number pages of multi-page poems. Indicate “Adult” or “Young Poet.” Young Poets should write their age on the front of the sheet where the poem appears, lower right-hand corner, circled. No identifying information on front of sheet and no staples. All poets, on reverse side of poem write name of poet, address, telephone number and email address. Poems will not be returned. Submit on white paper, printed clearly in ink or typed in plain typeface. Include SASE for notification of receipt of entry; otherwise notification will be via email. Only unpublished poems may be submitted. Previous first-place winners may not submit poems. Entries must be received by March 10. HILLTOWN HARMONY MULTI-GENERATIONAL CHORUS: Now in its fourth season, this chorus is open to new members ages 12 to 112 and is led by area musician, voice and theatre instructor Shelley Roberts, accompanied by Amy Roberts-Crawford. The chorus meets Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. starting March 20 in the main hall of the Senior Center, 7 Main St., Shelburne Falls. This season’s theme “Rock and Roll Oldies.” Call 625-2502 for information.
FRANKLIN COUNTY COMMUNITY CHORUS: As a result of the GHS Music Alumni Reunion Concert in May, interested singers ages 14 and older are invited to participate in the newly formed chorus directed by retired GHS Music Director Paul J. Calcari. The chorus is open to all members of the Greenfield and surrounding community. Rehearsals are Sundays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Guiding Star Grange, 401 Chapman St., Greenfield. The chorus will be an enjoyable, high-quality group that will sing a wide variety of music from classical to show tunes to folk music, etc.
