Bordner, Sadri enter States as top seeds
Pioneer Valley Regional School’s Dan Bordner and Darion Sadri will both have targets on their backs today at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
Bordner and Sadri enter today’s Division V State Indoor Track & Field Championships as top seeds in their respective events. The meet begins at 4:30.
Bordner is the top seed in the high jump with a qualifying height of 6 feet, 3 inches, while Sadri is the No. 1 seed in the long jump at 22-5. Mahar Regional School leads the way on the boys’ side with six seeded athletes. Andrew Wagner and Zabien Shaw both account for two of those. Wagner comes in as the seventh seed in the high jump and the 15th seed in the long jump, while Shaw is the 10th seed in the 2-mile and the 21st seed in the long jump. Leo Jillson earned the 11th seed in the shot put. Dan Bergman is the 20th seed in the 55-meter hurdles.
Mohawk will be represented in five events, including two by Josh Rode, who is 11th in the 1,000-meter run and 12th in the mile. Leroy Page is the seventh seed in the shot put, Lucas Purington sits 13th in the 300, and Cam Olanyk is 20th in the mile. Greenfield High School has the final two local boys at the meet. Veniam Darmanchev comes in eighth in the shot put, and Vlad Popusoi is seeded 18th in the 55 hurdles.
On the girls’ side, Mohawk’s Kesheal Henderson is the top local qualifier with the No. 3 seed in the shot put at 35-9.75. She will also compete in the 300 out of the eighth-seed. Teammate Natasha Olanyk enters the meet as the fifth seed in the 600 with a time of 1:38.53. The Warriors will also be represented in the 2-mile by both Juliette Shean (12th) and Meghan Davis (28th), while Sally Slowinski is seeded 14th in the long jump, and Ashley Pierce enters 23rd in the shot put.
Seeded in three events, Danielle Devine gives Pioneer multiple chances to do well. Devine is fifth in the long jump at 16-3.25, seventh in the high jump, and 16th in the 55 hurdles. Panther shot-putter Savannah Sojka is seeded fifth at 34-9, and teammate Devon Roy is 42nd in the 55.
Mahar’s Tiffany Tenney joins Devine as a three-event qualifier. Tenney is seeded fourth in both the 55 (7.66 seconds) and the long jump (16-3.5), and is 10th in the 300. Kelsie Bardsley will compete in two events for the Senators, seeded eighth in the long jump and 25th in the 55.
Athol High School’s lone representative is Sophie Palmacci, who is 11th in the 300.
