Bulletin Board: NMH hockey rolls, 6-1

Matt Greenwood recorded a natural hat trick with three first-period goals and added his fourth in the third period as Northfield Mount Hermon School dumped Vermont Academy, 6-1, in a boys’ prep hockey game Saturday at McCollum Arena in Gill.

Will Pappas and Peter-Owen Hayward each added one goal for NMH (17-6-1), while Kyle Redmond turned away 24 shots in the NMH net.

Basketball

Worcester Academy edged Northfield Mount Hermon School, 46-43, in a girls’ prep basketball game Saturday in Worcester.

Ruthann Zientek led NMH (10-6) with 11 points, while Kaylah Pinkney and Vanessa Udoji each added 9 points.

Hockey

Bantams beat Westfield

Christopher Urgiel scored a pair of goals Sunday and the Franklin County Hockey Association Gilmore & Farrell Insurance Warriors edged the Westfield Junior Bombers, 3-2, in a Greater Springfield League Bantam Division game at Amelia Park Arena in Westfield.

Mason Whiteman scored one goal and one assist in the win, and Jacob Bailey finished with one helper. Dalton Rice and Finnegan O’Connor combined for 36 saves in the FCHA goal.

Mites win

Braeden Killeen and Matt Lavoine each scored twice Saturday as FCHA South Deerfield Polish Club doubled up Amherst Red, 8-4, in a GSL Mite Division hockey game at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.

Shane Prusak, Brady Booska, Eathan Bryant and Trevor Kuchieski each scored once in the win, and goalie Ben Carlan played well.

Peewees fall

Mike McGoldrick scored once Sunday but Westfield edged FCHA Dillon Chevrolet, 4-1, in a GSL Peewee Division hockey game in Greenfield.

Riley Drew kept the game close in the FCHA net by turning aside 42 shots.

Squirts shutout Pioneer Valley

Trevor Parkinson stopped all six shots he faced Sunday as the FCHA Collura Chompers shut out Pioneer Valley, 5-0, in a GSL Squirt Division hockey game in Greenfield.

Aidan Roche and Hannah Roche each finished with one goal and two assists in the victory. Lila Roche had one goal and one assist, Heather French and Chloe Cutting potted one goal apiece, and Jillian Hopkins chipped in a helper.

Hunter Haughey and Cooper Barton played well defensively.

Indoor soccer

Monkeys win

Brady Burch recorded four goals and three assists as the Frontier Evil Monkeys defeated Shutesbury, 18-4, in a Under-11 division boys’ indoor soccer game at Allsport in Northampton over the weekend.

Rohan Edwards finished with four goals and two assists in the win. Jake Hanieski and Dylan Martin contributed three goals and two assists apiece. Luke Hrinda finished with two goals, Payton Sladeski tallied one goal and one assist, Dylan Robinson scored once, and Cameron Wrisley chipped in with a helper. Martin, Hanieski and Wrisley combined on 10 saves in goal for the win.

Baseball

Babe Ruth meeting

The Franklin County Babe Ruth Baseball League will hold a meeting to discuss its upcoming 45th season tonight at 6:30 at St. Kaz on Avenue A in Turners Falls.

On the agenda will be registration date, locations and Mickey Mantle Baseball.

Interested parties are encouraged to attend.
