Forum will let area youth talk directly to legislators
GREENFIELD — Area youth above the age of 14 who want to share ideas with their local legislators can do so Friday afternoon at DIAL/SELF’s 12th annual Youth Legislative Forum.
The event, which is sponsored by the Youth Services Roundtable and the DIAL/SELF RISE AmeriCorps Program, will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Four Rivers Public Charter School, located at 248 Colrain Road.
Spokesman Matt Ashby said that the event typically brings in about 50 youth from Franklin and Hampshire counties, and some from outside the region as well. Participants will be grouped together and have roundtable discussions with at least two different legislators.
He said it’s an opportunity for youth to see that, although they are too young to vote, they can make a difference and have their voices be heard.
Local state legislators — including Sens. Stanley Rosenberg and Benjamin Downing and Reps. Denise Andrews, Stephen Kulik and Paul Mark — are among those scheduled to attend.
