Henderson shines for Mohawk girls

Kesheal Henderson continued her strong winter indoor track season with a first- and second-place finish on Friday afternoon to help the Mohawk Trail Regional High School girls’ team to a pair of wins during Meet 2 at Smith College in Northampton.

The Warriors defeated Hampshire Regional High School, 77-17, and Mahar Regional School, 63-32. Henderson won the shot put in 33 feet, 10.5 inches, and finished second in the 55-meter dash in 7.89 seconds. Juliette Shean picked up a win for the Warriors in the 2-mile in 12 minutes, 29.11 seconds, and also placed third in the mile in 5:55.03. Teammate Meghan Davis took fifth in the mile in 6:03.19. Natasha Olanyk also earned a win on the day with a time of 1:40.14 in the 600.

Tiffany Tenney led Mahar with three top-five finishes. Tenney took third in the long jump (14-8), fourth in the 55 (7.91) and fifth in the 300 (44.73).

Danielle Devine finished third in the long jump in 14-11 to help Pioneer Valley Regional School to a 55-36 win over Holyoke Catholic High School. Emily Malsch finished third in the high jump (4-8), Savannah Sojka came in fourth in the shot put (29-2.75), and Devon Roy placed fourth in the 300 (46.61).

Athol High School earned a 80-10 win over Cathedral High School, while Greenfield High School suffered a pair of losses, falling to South Hadley High School (93-1) and West Springfield High School (66-15).

• On the boys’ side, Tyler Tobin won the 300 in 38.68 to help Mohawk to a split on Friday.

The Warriors defeated Hampshire, 74-20, but were edged by Mahar, 49-46.

Sam Rode took a pair of second-place finishes on the day, one coming in the mile (4:47.93) and the other in the 1,000 (2:48.54). Leroy Page added a second in the shot in 39-3.

Zabien Shaw led Mahar with a win in the 2-mile in 10:21.68. Andrew Wagner finished second in the high jump in 5-6, and took fifth in the 55 in 7.09 seconds, while Ethan Nye placed third in the long jump (19-1) and fifth in the 300 (39.31).

Travis Heath finished fourth in the shot put in 37-3.75 to help Athol to a 46-41 win over Cathedral.

Veniam Darmanchev won the shot put (43-10.75) for Greenfield, but the Green Wave suffered losses to South Hadley (69-26) and West Springfield (63-32).

Dan Bordner finished second in the high jump in 5-10, but his Pioneer team suffered a 79-16 loss to Holyoke Catholic.
