Democratic hopefuls for governor to attend forum

NORTHAMPTON — All five Democratic candidates for governor are scheduled to attend a public forum in Northampton later this month to address issues important to western Massachusetts.

Area residents will have a chance to hear from candidates Joseph Avellone, Donald Berwick, Martha Coakley, Steven Grossman and Juliette Kayyem from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 29 at Northampton High School auditorium.

“We’re hoping to have a wide array of questions for the candidates so people can hear their positions and make informed decisions,” said Elizabeth Silver, chairwoman of the Northampton Democratic City Committee.

The event will be moderated by Jim Madigan, director of public affairs programs at WGBY-TV, with panelists Stanley W. Moulton, night managing editor at the Daily Hampshire Gazette; WFCR reporter Susan Kaplan and WWLP Channel 22 news reporter Laura Hutchinson.

The primary is Sept. 9.

In case of bad weather, the forum would be rescheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 5 at the same location.
