Bulletin Board: NMH icemen in tourney final
Northfield Mount Hermon School’s boys’ hockey continued its solid season in the Cushing Academy New Year’s Tournament.
The Hoggers trailed after one period, but tallied twice in the middle frame and added three more in the third to skate to a 5-1 semifinal victory over Lawrence Academy on Thursday in Ashburnham.
NMH will face The Gunnery in today’s 3:30 p.m. championship game.
Kevin Dazkevich and Matt Greenwood both scored in the second period to give the Hoggers (10-4-1 overall) a 2-1 lead, one it would not relinquish.
Ben Freeman provided NMH some breathing room with his marker just 37 seconds into the final frame, then Bradley Allen and Owen Sandercox added goals later in the frame to put the game away.
Freeman finished with a goal and two assists, while Bradley Allen added a goal and an assist.
Conor O’Brien backstopped the victory in goal, as he turned aside 27 of the 28 shots he faced.
NMH had beaten the Cushing, 5-4 in overtime, and Governors’s Academy, 5-1, in the their first two games on Wednesday.
Deerfield Rec night at UMass
The Deerfield Recreation Department will be offering group ticket rates to the UMass hockey game on Jan. 31 against Boston University at 7 p.m.
The price is $8 per ticket, and all orders must be paid for by Jan. 14 to receive the discounted price.

Amherst College clinic
The Amherst College Baseball Winter Instructional Clinic will take place in January.
The Hitting Clinic will take place on Jan. 13 from 6:15 until 8 p.m. at the Calvin Coolidge Cage and will be divided into two age groups (9-13 & 14-16). The Pitching & Positional Play Clinic will take place on Jan. 15 from 6:15 until 8 p.m. and the clinic will be divided into the same two age groups.

The Hampshire-Franklin Baseball Umpires Association will conduct instructional classes for candidates for membership on eight Sunday evenings from January through March. No class will occur on Super Bowl Sunday.
The instructional course begins on Jan. 12 and runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at Deerfield Elementary School. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older and the fee is $50.
