Hiker has heart problem on Deerfield trail, taken to hospital
DEERFIELD — A female hiker suffered a cardiac problem while traveling along the Mahican-Mohawk Trail Tuesday morning.
At 11:08 a.m., the woman was hiking with a group of 25 to 30 people when she began having heart problems, Conway Fire Chief Robert Baker said.
When local first responders arrived, another hiker was already performing CPR on the woman. She was found on the trail off Hoosac Road along the Deerfield and Conway town lines, and brought out by rescuers.
Firefighters from the Conway Fire Department, the Deerfield Area Fire Protection District responded along with Deerfield Police and Deerfield EMS. Deerfield Fire brought along a rescue sled and ATV.
The hiker was taken by ambulance to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield. The condition of the woman is unknown. Her name was not released by officials because of privacy concerns.
