Finance Committee vacancy

GILL — The Finance Committee has another opening.

Gill Administrative Assistant Ray Purington said Chairman Alden Booth has resigned from the committee, citing time and scheduling conflicts. Nancy Griswold recently filled the seat vacated by Jim Poulsen’s resignation.

Residents of Gill who might be interested in serving on the Finance Committee may contact Town Clerk Lynda Hodsdon Mayo at 413-863-8103 or at townclerk@gillmass.org.

Town Moderator John Zywna is responsible for the appointment and no appointment will be made until after Jan. 15.

The Finance Committee acts in an advisory role on all financial matters considered at the annual and special town meetings. Most of the group’s meetings occur in the late winter and spring months, providing review and input on the town’s budget for the next fiscal year.

New firefighters

GILL — Laurie Lankowski, Austin McComb, Kane Kurtyka and Geoffrey Hebert are the latest additions to the town’s volunteer fire fighting force.

The Selectboard approved the appointments Monday, contingent on clear medical exams for all four.

Selectman Randy Crochier said he had read through the information sent by the fire chief and was impressed.

“I thank them for joining, giving to the town,” Crochier said.

New culture arbiter

GILL — Susan Kramer of Boyle Road has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Gill Cultural Council. Local cultural councils are responsible for apportioning grants for cultural activities passed down from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
