Bulletin Board: Delaney, Warrior girls continue slope dominance

It was more of the same Thursday evening on the Berkshire East ski slopes.

Frontier Regional School’s Corriann Delaney continued to lead the individuals and the Mohawk Trail Regional High School girls’ continued to dominate the team portion of the girls’ North Division during a PVIAC meet in Charlemont.

Delaney raced through the giant-slalom course in 24.46 seconds to finish first overall.

As for the team title, Mohawk has won everything in sight during the regular season and did not disappoint Thursday when four skiers finished inside the top 10 to secure the North team title. Ashley LaCross finished fourth overall in 25.24 to lead the Warriors, while Taylor Loomis was in fifth in 26.04. Erin Laffond finished sixth in 26.56, and Lizzie Herzig took ninth in 27.14.

On the boys’ side, two Mohawk competitors finished inside the top 10 in the North. Bennett Boucias was seventh in 37.03 and Dan White was eighth in 37.13.

The Frontier boys were led by Ben Martino, who finished 11th in the South Division in 44.53.

Basketball

Maverick Ward scored 18 points Thursday and Greenfield Middle School defeated Mohawk Middle School, 56-22, in a boys’ basketball game.

Alex Carballo and Sam Gibson each added 10 points for the Green Wave (14-1), while Bob Provost, Drew Conant and Ryan Cote provided strong defense.

Greenfield faces Frontier Monday afternoon in South Deerfield, seeking to avenge its only loss of the season.

• On the girls’ side, Amber Bergeron scored 22 points and Greenfield defeated Mohawk, 26-12.

Rachel Dodge added 4 points.

Josie Cloutier, Angie Rivera and Aneesa Brewer all played well defensively for the Wave, which improved to 6-9.

Youth baseball

Babe Ruth meeting

Franklin County Babe Ruth Baseball will hold a meeting Monday night at 6 on the second floor of St. Kaz on Avenue A in Turners Falls. Enter through the second door to the right on the front of the building.

Meeting topics will include registration sites and times for the 2018 season, new team sponsors, schedule and draft dates, regular-season and tournament team coaching openings, and any new business that arises.
