SHELBURNE FALLS — Starting Sept. 12, Mountain View Dance Studio will be offering children’s dance classes and acrobatics downstairs in Trinity Church, 17 Severance St.
Children as young as 2 years old can be signed up for Tiny Tot and Tiny Tot Acrobatic classes. Classes for older children, through high school age, include jazz, acrobatic and lyrical dance styles.
Chelsea Lowell of Shelburne Falls will be the main instructor, with Tammy Thompson, owner of Mountain View Dance, assisting. Thompson has been running dance classes since 1979, including Mountain View in Sunderland, which she opened in 1990.
“We don’t do competition, but we do a lot of community events,” said Thompson. She said dance students have performed at Meals on Wheels, helping to raise money for the group. “We teach kids that it’s good to be a great dancer, but even better to be a great person,” she said.
For now, all the dance classes are scheduled for Monday, but if there’s enough demand, classes may also be scheduled for a second day.
The 30-minute classes scheduled are:
Tiny Tot (2 to 5 years old) 3:30 p.m. and Tiny Tot acrobatics 4 p.m.
For children ages 5 to 7 years old: Acrobatic 4:30 p.m.; Jazz 5 p.m.
For children ages 8 to 11 years old: Jazz 5:30 p.m.; Acrobatic 6 p.m. and Lyrical 6:30 p.m.
For those ages 11 to 13: Jazz 7 p.m. and Acrobatic 7:30 p.m. High school students can study jazz dance at 8 p.m.
