WENDELL — Voters have taken the first step toward re-writing their health code to allow living off the electric grid or even without electricity at all.
On Tuesday, the annual town meeting agreed to petition the Legislature for authority to develop its own rules allowing alternative energy and sanitation systems for owner-occupied homes.
It’s the beginning of the town looking at changing health codes to allow for sustainable living with low electricity use and different kinds of septic technologies, which have less of an impact on the environment, said Selectboard member Daniel Keller.
“But, it’s just the first step in a very long process.”
