TURNERS FALLS — A level-funded Franklin County Technical School budget, which will nevertheless require an increase in town assessments and several staffing changes, has earned preliminary approval.
Presenting what he called a “very, very tough” preliminary budget with Superintendent Richard Lane, business manager Russ Kaubris said the $9,392,000 total will require a 2 percent increase in total assessments to member towns.
That increase, from $4,763,540 to $4,858,811, is necessitated by a decrease in funding from other sources, according to Kaubris.
Because of the way the state calculates the relative financial responsibility of towns in a district, some towns will likely see an increase in assessment despite a decrease in students sent to the school.
