Street car desire

Will Shelburne Falls see trolley again?

SHELBURNE FALLS — Old Trolley Car No. 10 once ran across what is now called the Bridge of Flowers, crossing into Buckland’s business district and heading up Depot Street to the old Buckland rail yard.
Today, the refurbished No. 10 trolley car is the centerpiece of the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum, but its run is limited to a stretch of track within the former freight yard.
To make the trolley more visible to the community and to the 30,000 visitors a year, town and museum officials, along with the Shelburne Falls Area Business Association, are seeking a grant to explore putting trolley tracks down Depot Street, in front of the Salmon Falls Artisans Showroom.
This week, organizers applied for a Massachusetts Downtown Initiative technical assistance grant to determine what permitting requirements are needed to reinstall a trolley track exactly where it was in 1908.
