Staples store downsizing

GREENFIELD — Staples in the Big Y plaza on the Mohawk Trail has begun renovations to reduce the size of its store by one third.
That comes just a little more than a week after the Dollar Tree store next door closed and left the plaza.
It appears the downsizing of Staples may be happening to increase the size of the former Dollar Tree space, but the property owner Syfeld Greenfield Associates could not be reached for comment or confirmation.
According to town records, Syfeld applied for a permit to do construction on the Staples space, but has not yet applied for the same to renovate the Dollar Tree space.
Staples currently has 33,885 square feet, but that will be reduced to 23,180 square feet when renovations are complete.
It is not yet clear what size the Dollar Tree space is or will be after renovations.
