Sheriff satisfied rioters will get time in Walpole

GREENFIELD — Franklin County’s sheriff thinks the “Vermont state prison system coddled” the inmates who trashed their cell block in a July riot at the county jail. But, he said, those prisoners, who have been housed in the Greenfield jail for lack of room in the Vermont prisons, “are in for a rude awakening when they get to Walpole.”
The dozen inmates charged in connection with the riot have been sentenced to the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction, the state’s maximum security prison in Walpole.
